Fundamentals 1: Starter Skills (4 Hours • 2 Classes)

Outcome: You can rally, serve and return consistently, and play basic doubles points without feeling lost.

  • Build the base you need to rally, keep the ball in play, and feel comfortable on court.

    • Grip, stance & ready position (how to set up for success)

    • Contact and control: keeping the ball low, consistent, and in-bounds

    • Forehand fundamentals: swing path, spacing, directional control

    • Backhand fundamentals: stability, timing, and simple corrections

    • Footwork basics: split step, moving to the ball, recovery position

    • Mini-rallies & coach-guided games (so skills translate into play)

    • Serve fundamentals: legality, rhythm, placement and consistency

    • Return fundamentals: depth, recovery, and how to neutralise the point early

    • Baseline decision-making: when to keep it safe vs when to apply pressure

    • Intro to doubles positioning: where to stand, how to move with a partner

    • Simple communication cues: “mine/yours”, middle ball awareness

    • Guided doubles points with live feedback

Fundamentals 2: Doubles Foundations (4 Hours • 2 Classes)

Outcome: You understand doubles structure, can handle kitchen rules, and know how to move forward with a plan.

  • Learn the “shape” of pickleball doubles—movement, positioning, and how to play the kitchen rules confidently.

    • Kitchen (NVZ) rules made simple: what you can/can’t do and why it matters

    • Dink fundamentals: touch, height, arc, and keeping the ball unattackable

    • Cross-court dinking patterns: consistency first, then direction changes

    • Moving to the kitchen safely: timing and spacing with your partner

    • Reset concept (intro): how to slow the point down under pressure

    • Guided kitchen games (structured, beginner-friendly)

    • Serve/return routines for doubles: roles and positioning after each shot

    • The third shot concept: drop vs drive (how to choose without overthinking)

    • Transition zone basics: staying balanced and avoiding panic swings

    • Net play fundamentals: blocks vs punches (intro)

    • Doubles movement: “move together”, covering the middle, switching responsibilities

    • Coached match play with simple tactical goals

Kitchen Control: Dinks & Drops (4 Hours • 2 Classes)

Outcome: You can sustain dink rallies, hit functional drops, and reset points instead of popping balls up.

  • The most important skill set in pickleball: controlling the kitchen with dinks, drops, and resets—so you stop donating points.

    • Dink technique: soft hands, stable paddle face, controlled lift

    • Cross-court dinks: height and margin (how to dink safely)

    • Down-the-line dinks: when to use them and how to reduce risk

    • Reading attackable balls: what to speed up and what to leave

    • Spacing at the kitchen: how far apart to stand, protecting the middle

    • Dink games that build patience + touch

    • Third-shot drop mechanics: arc, landing zone, contact point

    • Drop under pressure: making the drop when the return is deep or fast

    • Resets from the transition zone: “softening” the ball back into the kitchen

    • Approach patterns: how to get to the line behind a good drop

    • Controlled speed-ups (intro): safe targets and when NOT to speed up

    • Point construction drills: serve → return → drop → get to kitchen → dink

Volley & Defense: Blocks, Resets & Counters (4 Hours • 2 Classes)

Outcome: You stop panicking under pace, defend body shots, and can reset rallies back into neutral.

  • How to survive (and win) faster exchanges: blocking hard shots, defending your body, and countering without losing control.

    • Volley basics: compact swing, stable wrist, paddle out front

    • Block vs punch: when to absorb pace vs when to apply pressure

    • Body-shot defense: protecting your chest/hip line without flinching

    • Countering safely: controlled counters vs reckless swings

    • Footwork at the kitchen: split step timing and balance

    • Fast hands games that build reactions + control

    • Defending speed-ups: where to aim your block to neutralise

    • Reset mastery: resetting hard balls into the kitchen (high-value skill)

    • Transition defense: what to do when you’re caught mid-court

    • Lobs & overhead basics (situational): when they work and how to handle them

    • Team defense: partner spacing and who takes what

    • Coached games focused on defense goals (e.g., “3 successful resets per game”)

Serve & Return: Pressure Patterns (4 Hours • 2 Classes)

Outcome: How to start points better—serve with intention, return with depth, and run simple patterns that win you free points.

  • How to survive (and win) faster exchanges: blocking hard shots, defending your body, and countering without losing control.

    • Serve consistency: repeatable motion and high percentage targets

    • Placement strategy: body, backhand, and moving targets (safe patterns)

    • Return depth: keeping opponents back and earning time to move up

    • Return + recovery: getting into position quickly and correctly

    • 2nd shot roles (doubles): where partners should stand and why

    • Serve/return mini-games that build pressure tolerance

    • Third shot patterns: drop/drive decisions based on return quality

    • Fifth shot readiness: what to expect and how to respond

    • Targeting & shot selection: choosing high-percentage lanes

    • Point templates you can reuse**:**
serve wide → return cross → drop middle → approach → dink
serve body → short return → drive → crash → settle into kitchen

    • Handling aggressive returns: when to reset vs when to counter

    • Coached match play with “serve/return goals” tracking
